The Vivs are a Boston-based rock band inspired by their love of songs, harmonies, guitars, and good words. They worship at the altar of rock: the visceral energy of Mission of Burma and Human Sexual Response, the humor and perfection of the Kinks, the sonic braininess of Yo La Tengo, and the distaff awesomeness of Scrawl and The Breeders.
The band is still relatively new, though they’d all played in other bands—including Tribe, Trona, Seks Bomba, and Edith. A bunch of them had kids (who are now school-age) and took time off from making music.
After this hiatus, The Vivs got together, wrote a batch of songs, and very soon thereafter released their debut CD, “Mouth to Mouth” last September to generous and high praise; The Boston Globe and Cape Cod Times included it on their Top Ten of 2009 List. Blurt Magazine named the band one of their “Best Kept Secrets” for 2009.
“Top Ten of 2009”-
The Boston Globe, Cape Cod Times
“Terrifically nervy, riff-charged tracks…. Sharpshooter-sure…. Positively defiant – a classic old-school guitar pop record.”
–Jonathan Perry, The Boston Globe
“As many hooks as a pirate family reunion.”
– Bill O’Neill, The Boston Globe
