Beatlemania Takes Over at the Regent

Long-standing cover band performs two Beatles shows on Sunday
By Jonathan Pickering

“I am the Eggman, I am the Walrus, Cucu-Cacu, Ca-Cucu-Cacu!” Lyrics that still baffle and inspire musicians the world over from the most popular bands of all the time, Liverpool’s own, The Beatles.

Since John and George have passed on, a Beatles reunion is impossible. Fortunately, the legacy continues with Long Live the Beatles, a stellar tribute act from country musicians, impersonators and massive Beatles fans, the Mahoney Brothers. Fans can get their Fab Four fix with two shows at the Regent Theatre on Sunday.

The act is the longest running Beatles tribute show. The Mahoney Brothers have been doing the show for more than 30 years; some of the band members were part of the original Beatlemania Broadway cast. Leland Stein, the Director at the Regent Theater explained what fans of the Fab Four can look forward too.

“They really do a very heartfelt show,” Leland said. “A lot of the tribute shows are focused on the music, but the Mahoney’s do it all. They dress up like the Beatles and go chronologically through the Beatles eras. The overall sound, they really have perfected it because they have been doing it so long. They also have a video backdrop that goes along with the show, so it’s really a multi-media presentation.”

Bill Raymond, the Mahoney Brothers Manager,  explained that the band goes to great lengths to recreate the Beatles on stage.

“Through the use of exact Beatle instrumental replicas, song specific video presentation, on screen interviews and music garnered from the entire Beatles’ song catalogue, (1963-70), The Mahoney Brothers show leaves no doubt in the mind of the audience as to why the Beatles legacy remains so strong forty years after the bands breakup,” Raymond said.

The Regent will run two shows on Sunday, one matinee at 2 p.m. and another show at 7 p.m. with a full bar.  You can check out some video of Long Live the Beatles, along with everything you need to know about the Mahoney Brothers by visiting their website.
